Big K asked:
I have a world of warcraft 14 day trial I want to play really bad. The problem is every time i try to play it has something new to download. It has been downloading stuff for the last 3 days including one that was like 24 hours long. No matter how much i download or install it always has more. How do I get past the never ending installations and downloads so I can play?

You have to do them, because if you don’t, the launcher won’t let you play.
But most of them for me only take like 5-10 minutes, however, the biggest patch I have downloaded yet, took around 4-5 hours.
I would suggest deleting unwanted files, to give you more space, makes the download quicker, also, fiddle around with your firewall, you have to allow certain ports from your router, and the last things would be to make sure your not downloading anything else whilst you are downloading the patch, and close whatever else you are doing on your computer or laptop whilst you are doing the patch.
Also, it is boring, so if you don’t want to waste much time, and can afford to do this, fiddle around with your settings and turn standby off on your computer or laptop, then leave it on overnight, thats what I did with mine, I woke up and it was done, but if you don’t make standby off, then when it goes on standby, it will stop downloading, so you have to make sure that is done first.

Before you decided to play the game has been going for 4 years. In that 4 years there has been a butt load of patches. So, sorry you have to go through them, but it shouldnt be to bad, unless you are on dial up… then… you may never get to play
Hope you get to play soon, its fun.

I never have any long downloads like that except for on patch day. What I suggest to you is that try and look for an option to pre-download stuff. So when you run the patcher, then the game you should have the blizzard downloader already downloading stuff while you play. This should lessen the download times for other patches. Though I’m not sure if you get this since you are still on the trial. When you get the full game the downloading isn’t or shouldn’t be that bad.

I just installed the game yesterday and had the same problem.
The quickest way to get the patches is to either download them via ftp (http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors gives a good list) or to use a torrent client (http://www.utorrent.com/) and find the patches you need on a site like torrentz.com. Watch out that you get the right version, I wasted about an hour getting the 2.4.3 to 3.0.1 patch for the burning cruscade in stead of for the classic game.
Getting the files this way took 2 hours in stead of the 8 hours predicted by the wow patch downloader.

I know you want to try it to decide if you like the game. but when and if you like it and you but WoW, BC and WOTLK the patches will already be on the disk so it won’t seam as bad. Just hang in there. it is a fun game and you get to meet a lot of new people.

PATCHES GALORE! unfortunately they are unavoidable. your best bet is to see if you can get another trial code, and try again after you are done. if nothing else, grab up a 30 day card. i think it is like $40. it isn’t too expensive. and i am sure once you play, you will want to join up any way.
The patches must download in order for the game to run properly. sorry…it sucks, but it is worth the wait.
